There's one idea that has stayed consistent throughout my career: I'm fascinated by how things can work better. Efficiency, eliminating unnecessary work, simplifying processes, and getting more useful output from the same resources have always interested me. I've always been drawn to a simple question: is there a better way to do this?
That interest is one reason industrial engineering was a natural field for me. Over the years, I've explored the same question from different angles — I built and led my own startup, and I've worked in product, where customer problems, operations, and technology all have to come together.
My industrial engineering and Lean background trained me to look for waste, bottlenecks, and unnecessary complexity, and to find ways to improve a system. Later, I worked inside increasingly large and complex programs — including BART's Fleet of the Future and the LAX Automated People Mover — where optimization stopped being just about a single process. It became about information, priorities, ownership, tradeoffs, communication, and decision-making across many teams.
Today, AI makes this same interest far more powerful. It creates new ways to simplify work, improve decisions, automate repetitive processes, remove friction, and redesign systems that couldn't be optimized this way before. That's why my focus now is AI Systems & Optimization — not a new interest, but a new level of leverage for the question I've been asking throughout my career: how do you make a system work better?
